Known as the “4th of July for Protestants” on October 31st, 1517 Martin Luther nailed his ninety-five theses to the door of the Cathedral of Wittenberg, Germany. These theses condemned various practices and teaching of the Roman church. After several years of stormy disputes with the Pope and other leaders, Martin Luther was finally excommunicated from the fellowship of the Roman Catholic church in 1520.
